When I first decided to go to acupuncture school in 1999, My father said, “You are going to borrow money to study WHAT?”…
And now, that WHAT has become a major player in mainstream medicine in the US and many other countries. Â I love what we practice and the medicine is truly remarkable. Â But why are so many of us failing at the profession or not realizing our potential as small business owners?
It’s because we didn’t learn much, if anything, about running a business in Chinese Medical School.
It’s that simple.
So not only are we faced with continuing our medical educations and getting better as practitioners, but we are forced to learn how to run a business at the same time.  This is so difficult and takes a tremendous amount of time, energy, and discipline.
You can’t grow your business unless your systems are in place. Â And I wanted to grow into a successful acupuncturist with a thriving practice.
So this is what I did:
I began implementing quality forms and handouts for my clients and manuals for my employees. Â I drafted and re-drafted associate contracts. I studied and compared numerous online booking websites. I test drove many programs along the way to find the best fit for electronic charting for the Chinese Medicine model of care. I learned about automated text and email reminders. I spent months of extra energy while I was also treating 80-90 clients per week to research and create the backbones of a successful acupuncture practice. Â Overall… it’s been a tremendous improvement in the functionality of my clinics.
The process nearly wore me out… but at the end of the day, I’m thriving.  I’m saving time and money now on reception costs, and my clients love the automation.  My records are more detailed and professional looking than when I used paper charts. I now run three locations and have associates helping me treat my clients so that I can spend more time running an efficient, profitable business.  It didn’t take long for associates and colleagues to start asking me what tips I had and which programs I had been using. I started to realize that many people in the field crave this information .
I started Acuhub  because I truly want to help the profession excel and also to help other acupuncturists have a more profitable practice with less time and energy. Acuhub offers onsite clinic setup for new practitioners, customizable forms for your patients and front office, resources for the community including articles about the business of acupuncture, reviews on EHR and scheduling programs, books, and links to other coaches in the field. Remote reception services will soon be offered.
